For the last few months Mr. Martin Collins has been quietly creating an art installation within the offices of Solas in Fallcarragh. Last week at a very orivate funtion its official unveiling was celebrated with a few invited guests. Present at the opening ceremony were invited guests, dignitaries, Solas participants and staff. It was a well presented event, with many creative people present.

Speaking at the launch Mr. Collins spoke of the many sources of inspiration for his latest piece of art nouveau. From walking on the Camino to walking in Ards Forest, Mr. Collins found that he had a spark of inspiration within himself  that needed to be expressed. Without seeking permission or the advice of higher authorities he set about creating, what can only be described as an ''interesting art installation''.

The work represents more than just a stick and a hat.
The shell is a symbol of the camino walk.
The stick is signed by two American ladies Mr.Collins met while on the Camino.

In analysing the art work, we can imagine that part of this social art is the human need to be noticed... some people noticed the hat going up ...others noticed when the stick was added.

Im reminded of the old Irish saying ''ag caint ar an tsiuloid gior-raionn'' talking shortens the walk.  Every Solas walk I take part on is surely shortened while listening to the tales of participants. In a wider sense our walk here on earth can be made feel better and shorter by talking...when we walk through struggles in our life... a talk with another will shorten the struggle.

Mr. Collins expressed that he found that it was amazing to see how people often walk past things and pay them no heed... or notice it but are afraid to speak about it in-case we show our ignorance ...was that there already?? how long has it been there without me noticing??

If Andy Warhol can make millions then surely this too has its merit in the artistic worlds, Mr Collins continued.

The art is created using actual hat and stick that accompanied the Solas group on their Camino walk while Mr. Collins thinks this work is brilliant himself however as with all art pieces there may be critics.

 What do you think??
